Technical Deep Dive on Planning & Governance Challenges of Mega-Metropolitan Areas (Metro Labs 2)
December 11-17, 2017
The Metro Lab Meeting / Technical Deep Dive on Mega-Metropolitan Areas will bring together representatives from mega metropolitan regions from emerging economies with similar locations from select developed economies to exchange experiences and knowledge with a view to gain a better understanding of the dynamics and development trends of mega metropolitan regions across the world. The focus will be on four broad areas and concerns, namely: (a) Governing – how are such poly centric, multi-jurisdictional regions governed and what are their governance challenges? (b) Resourcing and Financing – how are resource requirements determined and what are the different ways in which such networks of large cities financed? (c) Planning and Coordinating – who plans within and across administrative boundaries? what are the planning horizons? and how are such plans coordinated across jurisdictions? and (d) Executing, Operating and Maintaining – what are the alternative arrangements for implementing and realizing plans and projects? Who and how are region-wide projects operated and maintained?
